[摘要] On 25 March 2025 the Section on Education and Training (SET) at IFLA Division C renewed the Webinar series for LIS students with an event focusing on the topic of the digital technologies and AI and the opportunities provided by them for librarians, library and information science (LIS) students and library users. The webinar was organized by the following team of the Standing Committee of SET: Albina Krimskaya, Marina Encheva and Susanne List-Tretthahn.

On 25 March 2025 the Section on Education and Training(SET)at IFLA Division C renewed the Webinar series for LIS students with an event focusing on the topic of the digital technologies and AI and the opportunities provided by them for librarians,library and information science(LIS)students and library users.The webinar was organized by the following team of the Standing Committee of SET:Albina Krimskaya,Marina Encheva and Susanne List-Tretthahn.
The keynote speaker at the event was the Head of Digital Innovation and Reuse at the National Library of Spain Elena Sanchez Nogales who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Information Technologies Section of IFLA.She has pioneered different initiatives aimed at the opening,reuse and exploitation of the data generated by the Library,or new services to fulfill the mission and the strategic lines of the National Library of Spain.The current interests of Elena Sanchez Nogales are related to AI application to digital collections and data as well as to library processes and management,etc.Her keynote speech was entitled“Smart Libraries,Smarter Librarians:A Perspective on AI and LIS professionals”.
The research interests of the first student speaker:the PhD student from the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies in Bulgaria Radoslav Hristov are focusing on the accessibility of libraries for people with disabilities,library tourism and the history of books and libraries.The title of Radoslav’s presentation was“Librarians and Users with Disabilities:Challenges to ChatGPT”.
The second speaker at the webinar:the recent Bachelor’s graduate from the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Philippines Diliman Rad Julongbayan has gained practical experience as a library intern at different libraries in the period March 2023 to April 2024 developing his skills in client relations and service management.Rad’s presentation was related to AI chatbots in academic libraries and their potential for transforming services and navigating challenges.
The third presentation was given by Pamela May L.Tayamora:a recent Bachelor’s graduate in Library and Information Studies from the University of Philippines Diliman.It explored the integration of ChatGPT into virtual reference services and the perceptions of reference librarians in a Philippine academic library context.
The final presentation at the webinar was held by Marina Ilieva,Bachelor’s student in Library and Information Management and a librarian at the National Library“St.St.Cyril and Methodius”in Bulgaria.Her presentation revealed what are the specific skills or knowledge areas in the use of AI tools and AI ethics that are particularly important in the field of LIS.
The audience at the webinar consisting of LIS students,librarians and university teachers was very active and many questions related to the application of AI tools in different settings were addressed to the keynote speaker and the student speakers.Open issues for further training sessions and discussions on Digital Technologies and AI among the LIS community were also outlined.
