An adaptation is likely to be regarded as less valuable than its original work, which is not always true. Some literary works wouldneverhave had an opportunity to be read if it had not been for the appearance of adaptations. In an adapted work,an interpretation and the the ways of thinking and feeling influenced by those of the contemporary spectators are featured. The study of adaptationesis of importance in terms of the future J6ruri studies. I attempt to analyze an original work, Keiseihangonko, by comparison with its adaptation, Meihitsukeiseikagami. I use the adapter's interpretation of Keiseihangonko showni n the adaptation, Meihitsukeiseikagami. The personality of the central character, Miya, who leads the plot of the original drama is also illustrated.

"The Letters of Ichiyo" (the Completed Works of Meiji Literature Vol. 30,I chiyo's Works), The Letters Given to Ichiyo(1943, published by Today's Problems Company) and Tsuzouku Shokan Bun(the Popular Letter Examples, May,1897) are currently known as the sources for the letters related to Ichiyo. These letters are studied not as secondary sources but as the texts of literary works, in order to "make a dynamic pursue of her various and subtle relationships with people."(Seki Ryoichi) By comparing Ichiyo's personalJetters with the illustrated letters found in her book, I pursue lchiyo's belief that she was the example for people wanting to write letters and her point of view on fiction.

Akutagawa Ryunosuke expresses his realization of the "New Ages" through the character called "Daigakusei" (A university student) in the last part of his work "Genkaku Sanbo". He also illustrates it in " Tsuioku-Roku."This becomes clear when compared with the foreign literary works, Kuraku(Pain and Pleasure) and "The Cherry Garden". Through these works,Akutagawa discovers the thoughts which are alienated from therealities of life, the thoughts which are not to be carried out in Chekhov's realization of the "New Ages" and in Liebknecht's understanding of Marx and laborers.
