Naoko is a woman of "Anti-establishment" who never yields to the control of her husband and his family, even though her body and soul are split in two, until she becomes "Funuke." Ichiro, the elder brother, who is superior in intelligence and Jjro, who attempts and fails to become the central person of the family are created as well to describe the fear of family collapse. It is a drama of human psychology which is hidden in the action of the people.
The third Uta poem in Kokinshu reads as follows : "Harugasumi Tateru ya izuko." However, there are some other texts in which the verb "Tataru" is used instead of "Tateru." "Tataru" has the same origin as the verb that is found in Azuma-Uta and Sakimori-Uta in Manyoushu. Heian people seem to have been familiar with this expression through the contemiiorary light. songs, though it was a little unusual. In my opinion, at the end of the Heian era, as people became less and less accustomed to this expression, the verb "Tateru" replaced "Tataru" in the text.
