JOURNAL FREE ACCESSPreviously it was thought that astrophotography could not be taken with a digital camera. The CCD sensors used in many digital cameras had fatal limitations: the longer the time of exposure or the higher the temperature, the more dark noise became apparent. So digital cameras were considered not being suited for photographing astronomical objects. For astronomy, a very expensive camera specifically designed was needed, called a cooled CCD camera taking pictures with a CCD sensor cooled to minus tens of degrees. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSNew enjoyments in photography including the variety of framing aspects selection (16: 9-4: 3) were proposed by the market introduction of DMC-LX1 equipped with world-first 8.4 M-Pixel 16: 9 CCD, and Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens with 4×optical zoom starting from 28mm and O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer).
Newly developed lens and CCD played important roles together with the industrial design for all of the product developments. Those allowed the camera become Creative Compact Model, which is creative enough to realize the photographer's intention to frame the scene, not compromising with the size for compact camera. User research results shows that the majority of owners enjoy the variety of framing aspects, despite a fact that most of them frequently use the 16: 9 aspect and are satisfied with the picture shooting with it.View full abstractDownload PDF (3895K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSAs part of a study to clarify the latent image formation mechanism of silver salt photothermographic materials, we examined relationships between photographic sensitivity, the absorbance of silver clusters formed by light irradiation, and the edge length of the nanometer-scale, ultrafine silver halide crystals employed in photothermographic materials. We found photographic sensitivity to be in proportion to the square of the silver halide crystals' edge length. From diffusion reflection spectra, we observed that when fatty acid silver was present, the absorbance of the silver clusters was in inverse proportion to crystal edge length; in contrast, when fatty acid silver was absent, the absorbance of the silver clusters was in proportion to crystal volume. We found that isolated silver ions supplied by fatty acid silver affect greatly latent image formation in silver salt photothermographic materials. The ionic process is different from the latent image formation mechanism of conventional silver halide photograph materials.View full abstractDownload PDF (1238K) -

JOURNAL FREE ACCESSPhoto-depolymerization characteristics of trithiocyanuric acid polymers were investigated in a ruthenium complex and methylviologen aqueous solution. When the ruthenium complex was exposed to visible light in basic solutions, the depolymerization of the polymer took place only at the illuminated area.
