Properties of silicon chelate complexes with 2, 2'-dihydroxy type azomethine dye ligand, such as absorption spectra, photovoltaic effect, etc., were investigated. These silicon chelate were insoluble in water and many of them were insoluble in common organic solvent, but all chelates showed excellent thermal resistance with decomposition temperature of above 300°C. In solution the silicon chelates with diethylamino substituted ligand of the azomethine dye showed considerable red-shifted absorption peak (λ
max) and the molar absorption coefficient (ε) was about twice compared with other silicon chilates. In the measurement of current-voltage properties for the photocell of Au/silicon chelate/Al, diethylamino substituted chelates showed photovoltaic effect. These schottky cells of these chelates showed a rectification effect in the dark and photovoltaic effect under irradiation of white light. The photocurrent action spectra of these cells showed these silicon chelates to be p-type semiconductor.
