1.Since 2004 the British Library's Web Archiving team has worked to capture an online snapshot of historically, socially and culturally significant events and preserve them both for research and as a key part of the nation's memory.
2.We are very excited to be archiving Antony Gormley's One & Other website. The project is both culturally and socially significant, representing the democratising tendency of current society, where the man in the street has a chance to have his say. Although the webcam elements are extremely difficult to capture with current archiving technology we're confident of securing a great deal of information from the site and learning more about complex sites of this kind for our future work. It will some months before we can show the results but archiving the project's online presence will allow the Library to create a permanent and comprehensive account of the contributions made by all participants, ensuring this celebrated installation lives on in the nation's memory.
3.As the custodian of the nation's collective memory the British Library has an interest in enabling future access to digital archives and personal collections created by individuals in the 21st century.
